I’m not gonna lie and say that Shio is awesome when it comes to meeting new people. We normally get a mixed bag of reactions depending on the stranger. Here’s a breakdown of the 2 usual reactions: 1. The “parallelogram” Shio is curious about the new person but maintains his distance. He makes sure that…

Zuko is the exact same way. A stranger has a better chance if he / she crouches down to his level and reaches under his chin. If they bend over and go for the top of the head he scampers backwards and gives them a look like a royal who has just been violated. If they are being “weird” he gets that odd huffing noise going – not a bark, but more like he’s warming up to one. He rarely actually barks at people unless they are just behaving totally out of the realm of norm. Interestingly, I trust his judgment and share his general reserve of strangers.
Shio is no gullible shiba!
Katsumi must have taken the same class! It doesn’t help that we are home-bodies and don’t get out much. But weekly visits to petsmart helps.
The “parallelogram” I love it! Kaiju does that ALL the time. He doesn’t ever really bark, but he does the “I’m just gonna turn my back on you and pretend you don’t exist by looking in the opposite direction” So rude! But, if you are with a dog… he’ll generally give you the benefit of the doubt that you are OK… he likes dogs
Haha – that’s so cute! It’s funny how offended and sad people get when Shibas turn away from them!
Oooh. Have you seen the Martha Stewart line for PetSmart? It’s sooo cute! We don’t have PetSmarts in lower Manhattan… yet!
That’s right! You’ll have to wake up pretty early in the morning to pull the wool over his eyes!
We huff and puff too!
