I’m sorry I’m a little lost when it comes to photography that I have to ask: what is negative film? Is it regular film like Kodak 400 tx, but better quality? Or is negative film something different?
When I googled Portra 400, a lot of links kept saying how it is the best “negative film”. I guess I’m so used to hearing the word, “film”, alone and automatically thinking of the negatives that I forgot to put two and two together. For some reason, I thought it was a special film that would allow people to scan their negatives better on to the computer instead of creating prints on paper from negatives. Am I confusing you, too? I really just meant to say in all this that I love your photographs and was so impressed by the quality that the Porta film brings.

Ah. Thank you for your kind words re the photos. I am not a film expert; all I know is there is “negative film” and “slide film”. Slide film has a lot less latitude (dynamic range). The Portra really is great. Renders color wonderfully, and you can underexpose it by 2 stops and still have photos come out ok.
If you are interested in shooting film, I highly recommend the FIND Guide (google Film Is Not Dead and you will find it).

Are you referring to the “2 stops +/-”?
