Bear Mountain Hiking

Given the nice, cooler fall weather that we have had, we took the chance to take Shio and Emi hiking upstate around Bear Mountain at Lake Skanatati. The fall foliage was beautiful: Shio is actually a very good hiker. We used an extra long leash so that he could go his own way, and he…

LOL at Shio’s WILL. NOT. CROSS. picture. Oh boy, he really does have a mind of his own, huh?

Looks like just the type of place I would love. Minus the ticks. We get them too, but luckily they don’t seem to be as prevalent around here — I’ve only found one on Bowpi so far.

Was this Emi’s first forest hike?

how do your guys do with rawhides? ours never have a problem, but whenever i post a photo of them eating one i always get the “isn’t that dangerous” comment…

When the rawhide gets to a small size, we monitor them very carefully so that they don’t try to swallow a big piece without chewing. Otherwise, they are fine and enjoy the teeth exercise very much.

Tina from Norway

Hello! We are expecting to bring home a Shiba puppy in august this year, and I plan to take a lot of pictures of our dog. I think you take lovely pictures of the dogs, and I wondered if you have any recommendations for me – I want to buy a new lens for my old camera, a Canon 450D. I want a lens that can take “sport” pictures without depending on bright daylight (if that’s possible, in norway only a few summer days are sunny:/ ).
I also plan on buying a 50mm lens, and the 1.8 is a lot cheaper than the 1.4. Do you know if it’s a big difference there?

I hope you have time to answer me! :)

Shio + Goo Goo vs. Coney Island

We have talked about taking the pups out to Coney Island for a family field trip. The weather was beautiful, so it was a perfect day for it… … Except the guy who booked the car before us ran 30 minutes late. Shio, in particular, was not happy with this — Whale Eye alert!! When…

Coney Island is one of those magical sounding places with lots of history (well, as much history as one gets in the urban US!) that I would love to visit someday. Glad I got a few glimpses with your pack!

I think the feeling that you get when you are at Coney Island is one of visiting a place that has long seen its glory days past… Pure nostalgia…

Love the photos! And Goo Goo! Are you her forever home?

When I was about five or six years old, my parents took us to Nathan’s and we ate our hotdogs outside on the sidewalk like everyone else. My parents and brother were happily eating, chatting with others when I suddenly burst into tears and cried and cried. My parents couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I asked them if we were poor and had to eat outside the restaurant! They took a photo of my little perturbed self standing on the sidewalk in front of Nathan’s.

Thanks!! I wish they had more dog-centric activities at Coney Island…!

Labor Day Weekend, Part II

We took Shio to yet another dog run near us — Rapelye Dog Run. But this time, Shio was surprised to the downside; the dog run was quiet, boring, and seemed abandoned almost… The last photo is great, because Shio basically tells us exactly how he feels about this particular dog run… Photos taken with…

That ain’t no dog run. That’s a dog SNOOZE.

Shio: errr… hallo? can we go now?

Reboot

Sorry for the lack of new posts. Two months ago we were very excited to have migrated Shio’s site to Squarespace. While there were many things we liked about it, we ran into 2 key issues: Ting could not gain administrator rights to the site, and thus was not able to efficiently work on the…

Ooooohmygosh that sliding Twitter sidebar is the coolest thing I’ve seen on a blog. I love that picture of Shio!

Sorry that you had so much trouble migrating :( It’s one of the reasons why I’ve never attempted a move (other reasons being a bit too lazy and scared of CSS)
