Shio vs. Agility Course Part II

As a follow up to J's previous post, here's a little more about Shio's performance in his first agility class: Shio quickly picked up on the agility exercises that were available and was excited to do so. The equipment that was set up for us were the open and closed tunnels, tire jump, A frame, dog walk, adjustable jump and the ladder. The one that he had the most trouble with was the ladder because he's not very coordinated.

Up until the last 15 minutes of the class when his puppy ADD took over. He then lost interest and started distracting all the other Shibas and running around the room like a little maniac.

We would definitely consider signing him up for agility classes when he's a little older because we would like to build our relationship with him and keep him active.

Here's a video of Shio walking the dog walk by himself after the agility class:

Shio vs. Agility Course

Today, Shio attended an introductory class to agility training. Being the absentee dad that I am, I got sucked onto a conference call and was unable to actually help out... Opps... But I did manage to snap 2 quick photos at the end of the 2-hour class:

_DSC0180_DSC0185As you can see, Shio had a lot of fun.

Perhaps my better half will post a full post on how the class went...

Shio in Target

Last month, Shio made another shopping cart appearance at my favorite store in the world: Target. I wasn't sure if I could bring him into Target but I sure as hell was not leaving him in the car during 90 degree weather on Long Island. I took the chance and had him sit in the shopping cart while I pushed him around to finish some errands shopping. Luckily, Shio remembered his experience at Bed Bath and Beyond and dutifully sat in the shopping cart without trying to jump out at all!

Unfortunately, as cute as he was in the cart, we got kicked out of Target in less than 15 minutes. Dogs are not allowed in Target. :(

P.S. Do you see the look on his face? He was NOT enjoying the sunny weather at all!

Shioscaping

Ever hear of landscaping your lawn to improve its appearance? Well, Shio hasn't. In fact, he has discovered how to do the exact opposite of creating a perfectly manicured lawn and we are calling it Shioscaping. Other Shiba owners call it Shibascaping. While on Long Island visiting an old friend with beautiful Border Collies for a doggy playdate, Shio decided to redo her backyard by digging up all the dirt and promptly rolling in it afterwards. Of course this occurred a week after we gave him a bath. (Those who do not know how difficult it is to give a Shiba a bath can refer to this, this and, more hysterically, this.)

Luckily, my friend had a great sense of humor and loved watching Shio dig away while I stood mortified by this natural doggy behavior.
